Avinash represented India 'A' in a Test series against England A and played 46 First-Class and 25 List A matches between 1992 and 1998 for Karnataka, South Zone, and the Board President's XI. He was Karnataka's primary wicketkeeper-batsman from 1989–90 to 1997–98, and was part of the Karnataka teams that won the Ranji Trophy (1995–96) and Irani Trophy (1996–97). He holds a BCCI Level 2 coaching certificate and has coached at the KSCA Academy and Karnataka U-14.
Post-playing, he has held senior operations roles across four franchises — General Manager at Royal Challengers Bangalore through eleven IPL seasons, GM of Punjab Kings (IPL) and Saint Lucia Kings (CPL), and Vice-President of Lucknow Super Giants (IPL) and Durban Super Giants (SA20). He served two years as a Senior Selector on the KSCA Ranji selection committee.
